On July 13, Amazon announced that Prime Day 2023 was quite successful.

Here are a few key points:

  • Amazon's Prime Day event, held on July 11 and 12, set new records, with the first day becoming the company's biggest sales day ever.

  • The two-day event marked the largest Prime Day in history. U.S. consumers spent $12.7 billion during the event, representing 6.1% year-over-year growth. The first day saw a nearly 6% increase in sales compared to the previous year, while the second day had a 6.4% year-over-year increase.

  • Customers spent more per order, with an average order size of $54.05.

  • Top categories during the event included home goods, fashion, and beauty. Sales were driven by appliances, housekeeping supplies, electronics, apparel, and office supplies.

  • Mobile shopping increased, with smartphones accounting for 44.8% of sales on the second day.

  • Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) usage also grew, contributing $927 million in revenue, up 20% from the previous year.

  • The number of items purchased worldwide increased to over 375 million, up from 300 million in the previous year.
