Norway achieves a new global milestone in EV sales
94% of all new car sales in August 2024 were electric vehicles
Norway has achieved a remarkable milestone with electric vehicles (EVs) making up 94% of all new car sales in August 2024.
Here are some key points:
This achievement is driven by the popularity of models like the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Kona, and Nissan Leaf.
The country aims to sell only zero-emission vehicles by 2025 (a target set 10 years ahead of the EU's goal), supported by generous tax benefits that make EVs competitively priced.
In August alone, Norwegians purchased 10,480 new EVs, bringing the total for the year to 68,435.
This surge in EV sales contrasts sharply with the rest of Europe, where high prices and insufficient infrastructure have hampered adoption. In the European Union, for example, electric cars represented only 12.1% of new car sales in July, lagging behind petrol and hybrid vehicles.
