Google unveils 'Google Public Sector'
The new division will focus on U.S. public sector institutions
On June 28, Google announced the creation of a new division called “Google Public Sector” which will cater to the public sector in the U.S.
More precisely, such will operate “as a subsidiary of Google LLC and will specialize in bringing Google Cloud technologies, including Google Cloud Platform and Google Workspace, to U.S. public sector customers.” Google Public Sector will be led by Google vet Will Grannis (no pun intended).
This move makes sense as the stigma around cloud computing has lessened considerably across industries. A Deloitte report notes that COVID-19 has certainly accelerated adoption in government agencies: “the pandemic caused many government agencies to dive headfirst into cloud. The flexibility and scalability of cloud allowed governments to meet the urgent challenges of the pandemic, such as massive surges in demand for services or the sudden shift to remote work.”
Frank Konkel, Executive Editor at Nextgov, points out that the Big Tech firm has had a complex relationship with defense agencies but… today is a new day it seems.
