GM is launching a new energy division
The business unit will focus on home and commercial energy storage, management
General Motors today announced the creation of a new division called “GM Energy”.
Here are some key points:
GM Energy’s product and services will focus on energy management for home, commercial and EV customers, with “solutions ranging from bi-directional charging, vehicle-to-home (V2H) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) applications, to stationary storage, solar products, software applications, cloud management tools, microgrid solutions, hydrogen fuel cells and more”.
Key selling points are integrated management and power grid resiliency; a subject matter that’s quite infamous these days amid increasing power outages.
GM claims that “large-scale companies across the U.S.” have already signed up for such offering.
Besides the potential of those products and services, I believe the goodwill aspect of this new venture could further improve GM’s brand perception (aka not just a car manufacturer).
