France: Food delivery gig workers set to get minimum wage
This is part of a larger anti-"uberisation" campaign
Major food delivery platforms have reached an agreement with representatives of French riders on a minimum hourly wage.
Here are some key points:
The deal was negotiated by FNAE, a trade union representing self-employed individuals. Union-Independants, another self-employed workers’ union, stated it would consult with members about the agreement.
Workers will be paid at least €11.75 ($12.85) per hour, which is slightly more than the legal minimum wage in France.
The agreement is sector-wide and applies to every home delivery platforms.
UK-based Deliveroo was fined €375,000 by a Paris court in 2022 for failing to classify its riders as employees (which led to millions of euros in unpaid payroll taxes).
