China's BYD, the world's largest electric carmaker, made a significant move by delivering thousands of cars to Germany's Bremerhaven port.

Here are a few key points:

  • The arrival of these vehicles challenges Europe's established auto giants, which have been lagging behind in transitioning from combustion engines to batteries.

  • BYD, which recently surpassed Tesla in volume of battery electric vehicles, unloaded 3,000 units from its specially commissioned cargo ship, the BYD Explorer No.1.

  • Founded in 1995 as a battery manufacturer, BYD expanded into producing plug-in hybrid and all-electric vehicles.

  • It competes with Tesla on pricing and has plans to establish its factory in Europe, starting with Hungary.
