EU approves funding for Infineon’s €1 billion Smart Power Fab in Dresden
The semiconductor facility is set to open in 2026
The European Commission has approved funding under the European Chips Act for Infineon Technologies' Smart Power Fab in Dresden, with official approval from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action pending.
Here are some key points:
The total funding for the site is around €1 billion, complementing Infineon’s €5 billion investment in the project.
Construction began in March 2023, with the facility set to open in 2026, creating up to 1,000 jobs.
The fab will focus on semiconductor technologies for decarbonization and digitalization, particularly energy-efficient AI power solutions.
Infineon is also leveraging the IPCEI ME/CT program for further research investments in Germany and Austria.
Additionally, the project aims to foster collaboration with universities and research institutions to strengthen Europe’s innovation ecosystem.
