OpenAI announced on November 3 that its popular text-to-image model DALL-E 2 is now available as an API (in public beta).
Here are some key points:
Developers can now integrate DALL-E 2 directly into their apps and products.
Pricing is as follows: “For 1024×1024 images, the cost is $0.02 per image; 512×512 images are $0.018 per image; and 256×256 images are $0.016 per image”. Volume discounts are reserved for enterprise clients.
There are already examples of DALL-E 2 integration, notably the Microsoft Designer app (the Big Tech company being a close partner of OpenAI).
As I’ve previously mentioned, it’s still unclear whether text-to-image models have a true raison d'être (especially in B2B settings), yet this development could well birth many new apps and augment the generative AI ecosystem.
