BMW, Ford and Honda form ChargeScape
The new US-based company will focus on optimizing electric vehicle grid services
BMW, Ford, and Honda are forming a new US-based company called ChargeScape, focused on optimizing electric vehicle grid services.
Here are a few key points:
ChargeScape will create a platform to connect electric utilities, automakers, and EV customers to manage energy usage.
The company plans to leverage the Open Vehicle-Grid Integration Platform (OVGIP) to provide integration and enable electric utilities to access EV battery energy for various purposes. This includes encouraging EV customers to charge during off-peak hours and potentially share energy stored in their EVs with the grid during peak demand.
By leveraging automaker telematics, the company intends to offer managed charge scheduling without requiring Wi-Fi-enabled charging stations, making it accessible to a broader range of EV users.
This is interesting initiative that could eliminate certain marketing costs for the three automakers.
