Almost a quarter of American adults have used ChatGPT
That's according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in February
ChatGPT usage among Americans is quite high, as revealed by a comprehensive survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in February.
Here are a few key points:
The data indicates a significant uptick, with 23% of U.S. adults reporting having engaged with ChatGPT, marking a notable rise from the 18% reported in July 2023.
Particularly noteworthy is the surge in usage among younger demographics, with 43% of adults under 30 having utilized ChatGPT, showcasing a 10-percentage point increase since the previous summer.
Additionally, individuals with higher levels of education exhibit greater propensity for ChatGPT usage, with 37% of those holding postgraduate or advanced degrees having engaged with the chatbot, marking an 8-point increase from July 2023.
The survey further explores the diverse ways in which Americans employ ChatGPT, including for workplace tasks, learning endeavors, and recreational purposes. Notably, the proportion of employed individuals utilizing ChatGPT for work has surged from 8% in March 2023 to 20% in February 2024, demonstrating a substantial increase, particularly among younger workers. Moreover, the percentage of individuals leveraging ChatGPT for learning or entertainment has doubled since March 2023, underscoring its growing utility across various spheres of daily life.
Ed note: In a previously published version of this newsletter, the title “Almost a quarter of Americans have used ChatGPT” failed to mention that the percentage only referred to individuals who are 18 and up. This has since been corrected. I regret the oversight.
