IBM announced today the launch of its new AI and data platform, WatsonX, at its annual Think conference.

Here are six key points:

  • WatsonX includes WatsonX.ai, an AI development studio that offers a variety of foundation models, training, tuning, and infrastructure to enable enterprises to train, test, and deploy traditional machine learning and new generative AI capabilities powered by foundation models via a simple user interface.

  • WatsonX.data is a purpose-built data store based on open lakehouse architecture that is designed for regulated data and AI workloads

  • WatsonX.governance is an AI governance toolset that enables trusted AI processes.

  • IBM clients may use the platform to train and deploy unique AI capabilities throughout their whole organization while maintaining control over their data.

  • The initial set of foundation models will be made accessible to certain customers via beta tech preview.

  • General availability is expected in July 2023.
